ANGOLA, IND. -- The Trine University women's track and field team resumed its indoor schedule by hosting the Sean Brady/Keith Turner Alumni Open at the Keith E. Busse/Steel Dynamics Athletic and Recreation Center in Angola, Ind.
The Thunder finished second overall out of five teams in the standings with a combined score of 125 points. Indiana Tech finished first with 220 points and St. Francis (Ind.) University was third with 100 points.
The top individual finishes for Trine in the running events came in the distance races highlighted by a pair of victories by sophomore Evie Bultemeyer (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) and senior Lacie Piekarski (Spring Lake, Mich./Spring Lake). Bultemeyer posted a winning time in the one-mile run of 5:11.21 and Piekarski broke the finish line tape with a top overall mark of 10:51.86 in the 3000-meter run, posting a season best.
In addition to Bultemeyer in the one-mile run, senior Hannah Blystone (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) also competed in the event and placed second in a time of 5:12.76. With their times in the mile, Bultemeyer currently ranks sixth in NCAA Division III and Blystone's time is currently the seventh fastest in the country.
Freshman Chloe Brittain (Breckenridge, Mich./Breckenridge) finished in the top three in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:23.21 which was good enough for second place and is currently the 24th-best time in the nation.
The Thunder also had a strong showing in the 4x400-meter relay by capturing the event in a time of 4:12.47.
In the field events, freshman Mackenzie Bristol (Waukesha, Wisc./Waukesha West) won the pole vault after clearing the bar in a season-best height of 9' 6.25". Sophomore teammate Abigail Kuhlman (Napoleon, Ohio/Napoleon) also competed in the pole vault and placed second overall after a best vault of 9' 0.25".
Junior Andrea Hagar (Goshen, Ind./Fairfield) competed in a pair of events and placed in the top-three in both events that included a second-place finish in the shot put following a toss of 37' 2.5" and a third-place showing in the weight throw with a best mark of 44' 8.75".
Freshman Stephanie Hartpence (Elkhart, Ind./Concord) finished second overall in high jump at a leap that cleared 4' 8.25".
Fellow freshman Valerie Obear (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) rounded out the top finishes on the day with a fourth-place effort in the weight throw and a toss of 44' 5.25".
Trine will host the Don & Riley Zimmer Classic next Saturday, Jan. 19 at the Keith E. Busse/Steel Dynamics Athletic and Recreation Center with the first events scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
