INDIANAPOLIS, IND. -- The Trine University women's track and field team began the 2019-20 indoor season at the unscored University of Indianapolis Season Opener.
Trine primarily competed in the field events with the top overall finishes coming in the long jump and weight throw. Sophomore Stephanie Hartpence (Elkhart, Ind./Concord) placed fifth in the long jump after a best leap of 15' 4". Fellow sophomore Valerie Obear (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) posted a mark of 49' 3" in the weight throw which was also good enough for fifth place overall.
Freshman Madelyn Summers (Kendallville, Ind./East Noble) and sophomore Anna Kmec (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) both finished in the top-10 in the shot put with Summers placing eighth (33' 6.50") and Kmec was tied for 10th (31' 3.75").
Hartpence also competed in the high jump along with freshman Lia Vawter (Franklin, Ind./Franklin) who both cleared the bar at a height of 4' 11". Hartpence finished fifth overall via judge's decision and Vawter was sixth. Kmec also finished in the top-10 in a two-way tie for ninth after a height of 4' 7".
Massie Jo Maskow (Howe, Ind./Lakeland) and Hartpence were the two lone Thunder participants in the running events with Maskow placing ninth in the 400-meter dash (1:07.00) and 27th in the 200-meter dash (30.01 seconds). Hartpence also ran in the 200m dash and placed 20th after recording a time of 28.64 seconds.
Trine will be idle until Saturday, Jan. 11 when it hosts the Sean Brady/Keith Turner Alumni Open. The first events are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
