ANGOLA, IND.  --  Members of the Trine University triathlon team were recognized for their achievements in the classroom by being selected Scholar All-American by the College Triathlon Coaches Association (CTCA).

As a team, the Thunder had a 3.70 combined grade point average during the 2017 fall semester with junior Hannah Blystone (Carmel, Ind./Carmel), sophomores Kirsten Godfrey (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead), Natalie Landel (Edgerton, Ohio/Edgerton) and freshman Melissa Wirtz (Huron, Ohio/Huron) garnering individual accolades.  In addition, senior Stephanie Hostutler-Eiden (Angola, Ind./Culver) was selected honorable mention.

The Scholar All-American Awards were given to those who competed in the College Varsity Triathlon National Championship and had a fall GPA of 3.5 or greater; while the honorable mention was given to those who achieved a 3.5 or greater for the fall semester and competed in at least one regional championship.

In its first season as a varsity sport at Trine, the Thunder finished as national runners-up at the Collegiate Triathlon National Championship in early November.  Blystone was an All-Region Award winner finishing as the top Division III competitor in the first regional event of the season and was also tabbed All-American following her performance at the national meet as the third fastest finisher amongst Division III athletes.
