ANGOLA, IND.-- The Trine volleyball team has released its schedule for the 2014 season, the team announced Thursday.
Highlighting the schedule will be a trip to Boston for the UMASS-Boston Invitational Oct. 10-11. The Thunder will face UMASS-Boston, Colby-Sawyer, Emerson and Roger Williams in the tournament. Trine will play nine home matches as part of the 29-game schedule. The Thunder are coming off a season in which the team finished 16-15 overall and tied for third place in the MIAA with an 8-8 league mark. Setter Carly Searles (Levering, Mich./Petoskey) was named Second-Team All-MIAA for TU last fall.
Trine opens the season with four matches over two days at the Manchester University Invitational. The Thunder will face Rose-Hulman in the season-opener Aug. 29 at 3:00 p.m. The team will also face Anderson, Franklin and Manchester in the Invitational.
In addition to the UMASS-Boston Invitational, the non-conference schedule also includes tri-matches at Illinois Tech and Franklin. The Thunder will also host Defiance as part of a tri-match Sep. 20.
The Thunder will open conference play Sep. 5 in their home-opener against defending-National Champion Calvin. The MIAA portion of the schedule includes home and away matches with every conference school. Trine will wrap up the conference slate on Senior Night, as the Thunder will host Olivet Oct. 28.
