ANGOLA, Ind.-- The Trine volleyball team was swept by no. 5 Calvin, 25-14, 25-15, 25-8 in MIAA-action Wednesday night in Hershey Hall.
The Knights hit .346 on the night, with five players notching five kills and hitting .267 or better. All-Americans Laura Danhoff and Maggie Kamp each put away nine kills to lead the way. Danhoff added six blocks, including four solo. Taylor Rabel (Muncie, Ind./Muncie Central) led the Thunder with five kills. She added six digs. Trine fell to 6-9 overall and evened its MIAA record at 4-4. Calvin improved to 13-3 overall, 7-0 in conference matches.
Megan Verkamp (Franklin, Ind./Franklin Community) and Janaya Wilder (Decatur, Ind./Bellmont) each notched four kills for the Thunder. Verkamp added four blocks, including one solo.
Jenna Lodewyk notched five kills, eight digs and 25 assists for the Knights. Tessa Van Laare recorded six kills, while Anna Kamp added five kills. The Knights recorded seven blocks on the night, four of which were the solo work of Danhoff.
Trine will hit the road for New Jersey as the Thunder will compete in a tournament at Kean University this weekend. Play opens Friday, Oct. 2 with matches against Kean and Springfield.
