OLIVET, Mich.—The Trine volleyball team fell in three sets to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association foe Olivet on Friday night on the road.
The Comets won the first set, 25-17, before picking up two 25-22 wins in the next sets.
Olivet took an early lead in the first set, but Trine would battle back to come within three points. The Comets' Brittney Prince led her team's offense to complete the first set. The Comets held a small lead throughout the second set and went on to go up by two. In the third, the two teams traded leads back and forth and were tied 22 all. Olivet won three-straight points to seal the victory.
Sophomore Shannon Scott (Vicksburg, Mich./Vicksburg) led the Trine offense with seven kills, while hitting .429. Junior Samantha Ihrie (Kendallville, Ind./East Noble) helped the Thunder with 18 assists. Sophomores Morgan Harris (Crown Point, Ind./Merrillville)and Janaya Wilder (Decatur, Ind./Bellmont) each had six kills. Sophomore Emma Lucas (Hamilton, Ind./Hamilton) and Wilder each put up career highs at the net for the Thunder with five and four blocks, respectively. Sophomore Rhylee Beshears (Gary, Ind./Hobart) led her team with 13 digs.
Allison Turner and Brittney Prince led the Comets' offense with 16 kills each. Danielle Bearden had a match-high 44 assists. Mona Hinamanu led the defense with 15 digs.
The Thunder will be back in action on Saturday when it will play host to Albion at 11 a.m.
