ANGOLA, Ind.-- The Trine women's cross country team will open the season Tuesday at the Manchester University Hokum Karem.
The Thunder is coming off a season in which the team placed seventh in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association for the third-consecutive season. Despite a small roster, the team does return several experienced runners including the top four performers off last season's squad. Trine is hoping that both internal improvement and the incoming freshman class will lead to a higher finish in the MIAA this fall.
In the video below, head coach Zach Raber previews the upcoming men's and women's cross country season.

Leading the returners is senior Courtney Forsythe (West Mansfield, Ohio/Benjamin Logan), who was consistently the team's top runner last season. Junior Kelsey Ortiz (Swanton, Ohio/Anthony Wayne) was often not far off Forsythe's pace last season and gives the Thunder another consistent performer on race day.
Kyla Binfet (West Yellowstone, Mont./West Yellowstone) and Heather Richardson (Fort Wayne, Ind./South Side) each return after gaining valuable experience as freshmen last season. Richardson also showed improvement during the track season and will look to continue that trend this fall.
Freshmen Hannah Blystone (Carmel, Ind./Carmel), Lacie Piekarski (Spring Lake, Mich./Spring Lake) and Samantha Stensland (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) are newcomers who will look to make an impact this season.
The season opens Tuesday, Sept. 1 at the Manchester University Hokum Karem. The race features pairs of runners running alternating miles as a tandem. Points are awarded based on the combined performance of each pair of runners.
The schedule features four other races prior to the MIAA Championship at Olivet on Oct. 31. The complete schedule can be viewed HERE.
