ANGOLA, IND. -- Trine University sophomore women's cross country runner Evonne Bultemeyer (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) has been named this week's Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association "Runner of the Week."
Bultemeyer led the Thunder at the season-opening Wittenberg University Invitational over the weekend by finishing as the individual champion with a time of 19:28.5 in a field of 42 runners. Her time was over 22 seconds ahead of teammate Lacie Piekarski who placed second in the event.
As a team, Trine captured the event with an overall team score of 23 points and placed six individuals (counting Bultemeyer) inside the top-10. The Thunder have claimed their last two season-opening races. Trine finished as team champion in the Hokum-Karem event at Manchester University that began the 2017 season.
Trine will travel to North Manchester, Ind. to compete in the Manchester Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 15. The women's race is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
