Hoopla Community Day Set for February 11

ANGOLA, Ind. -- Trine University will offer free admission for all fans at the Hoopla Community Day basketball doubleheader scheduled for February 11.

In addition to free admission, the first 400 adults and 100 youth in attendance will receive a free t-shirt. Free hot dogs will be available for 200 guests between games. All fans can participate in a half-court shootout for a $200 prize following the conclusion of the doubleheader. The first fan to sink the half-court shot wins the prize.

The basketball action between the Thunder women's basketball team and Kalamazoo begins at 1 p.m. Trine owns an overall record of 19 and is ranked No. 23 in the nation in the D3hoops.com Top 25 Poll. The team can clinch its first 20-win season since 2000-01 with a victory. The Thunder are in a race for the team's first MIAA regular-season title.

The women's team will honor senior Taylor Cole prior to the final home regular-season game of her career. Cole ranks sixth in team history in steals and is a key starter on this year's Thunder team.

The men's game between Trine and Alma follows the women's contest at 3 p.m. The Thunder and Scots are separated by one game in the MIAA standings. A win would move Trine into a tie for third-place in the conference entering the final week fo the season. The team is seeking a top-four finish for another berth in the MIAA Tournament.

Trine University will induct J.D. Collins into its Athletic Hall of Fame at halftime of the men's contest. Collins, a 1983 graduate, served as the NCAA's national coordinator of basketball officiating. Collins also served as an NCAA Division I basketball referee for 19 years, during which he worked 10 NCAA Tournaments, including one Final Four.

Halftime entertainment will include performances by Trine University's cheer and dance teams, as well as activities and contests organized by the Office of Student Services.
