Trine First in MIAA Men’s Commissioner Cup Fall Standings, Third Overall

FREELAND, Mich. – In the fall update of the 2018-19 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Commissioner's Cup race, Trine University holds the early lead in the men's standings while sitting third in the overall standings and in a tie for fourth in the women's standings.

The Thunder led the pack in the men's standings by finishing in the top four of all fall sports. Football became the top point getter for the Thunder by finishing the regular season undefeated and as MIAA Champions. Men's soccer finished in a tie for second, while both men's cross country and men's golf both finished in third to round out the impressive scorecard for the Thunder.

On the women's side, Trine improved one spot from their ranking a year ago, coming in a tie for fourth. Leading the way for the Thunder was the women's cross country team who finished the season in third and women's volleyball which finished in fifth.

Overall Trine finds themselves in third behind Hope and Calvin. A year ago the team was also in third but with two fewer points than today.

The fall update is an unofficial look at MIAA Commissioner's Cup standings. The award is based on the cumulative performance of each member school in the league's 23 sports, 11 in women' sports, and 12 in men's sports; each school counts its top-eight finishes by gender. The fall update includes each team's MIAA finish in four men's and four women's sports.
