Barnett and Bultemeyer Earn Spots in NCAA Division III National Meet

Barnett and Bultemeyer Earn Spots in NCAA Division III National Meet

ANGOLA, IND.  --  Senior Jeffery Barnett (Fremont, Ohio/Ross) and sophomore Evie Bultemeyer (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) will represent Trine University at the 2019 NCAA Division III National Indoor Meet hosted by the University of Massachusetts-Boston in Boston, Mass.

Barnett qualified in the field of 20 athletes in the long jump.  He currently ranks in a tie for third nationally in the event with a season-best leap of 24' 1.75" which he recorded at the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Indoor Championships to win the event and become a three-time conference indoor champion.  Barnett returns to the indoor national meet for the third straight season and finished as the national runner-up in the long jump a year ago.  He will also be seeking his third consecutive All-American honor in the event.

Bultemeyer will compete in the mile run and will enter the event with a season-best mark of 4:54.06 which she ran at the Grand Valley State University "Big Meet" in early February.  Her mark also improved upon her school record time in the race that she had initially set two weeks prior at another meet hosted by GVSU.  Bultemeyer was a two-event champion at the MIAA Indoor Championships and was named the "Most Valuable Track" performer.  This will be Bultemeyer's first trip to the NCAA indoor nationals.

The two-day NCAA meet is set to begin on Friday, Mar. 8 and will be held at the Reggie Lewis Center on the campus of UMass-Boston.  The first events on Friday are scheduled to start at 10 a.m.
