MIAA Releases Team GPA Award and Academic Honor Roll

MIAA Releases Team GPA Award and Academic Honor Roll

FREELAND, Mich. -- The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) has announced the 2021-22 MIAA Academic Honor Roll and the 2021-22 MIAA Team GPA Award with Trine University coming in with a healthy representation on both lists.

The MIAA Team GPA Award is presented to conference athletic teams that achieve a 3.300 or better GPA for an academic year.  Grade-point averages are calculated at the end of the academic year. Trine was one of six MIAA members who had 50 percent or more of their MIAA-sponsored athletic teams receive recognition.

The Thunder also boasted the two highest team GPA's in the MIAA. Women's cross country came in first (3.89) and women's tennis in second (3.88). Women's basketball (3.71) finished ninth as the other team in the top ten.

All told 12 Thunder teams earned the honor, tied for fourth most from a single institution in the MIAA. In addition to the university's three top teams women's basketball, men's tennis, women's volleyball, women's outdoor track and field, women's indoor track and field, softball, men's cross country, women's soccer, women's lacrosse and women's golf all received the honor.

For more information check out the MIAA's full release.

Individually student-athletes were also recognized as part of the 2021-22 MIAA Academic Honor Roll. To be recognized, student-athletes must reach a 3.5 grade-point average for the academic year and earn a varsity letter in an MIAA-sponsored sport.

Trine garnered 235 individuals on this year's edition of the honor roll, second highest among MIAA institutions. For a full list of Thunder student-athletes who were honored and for more information view the full MIAA release.
