GEORGETOWN, Ky. -- The Trine University acrobatics and tumbling team came up just shy of a season-opening win in their inaugural competition. They were defeated by Georgetown (Ky.) College with a meet total score of 148.350 to 146.165.

The meet began with the compulsory event where the Thunder were outscored 28.250 to 17.200. The team's best score came in the Toss portion of the event where they posted an 8.250.

Both teams moved onto the Acro event next and Trine started out with their first heat victory of the day defeating the opposition 8-7.4 in the first heat. Despite putting up decent scores throughout the other two heats the team once again gave up ground to the Tigers losing the event 25.55-22.1.

In the Pyramid event, Trine had their best showing so far coming up with narrow victories in both the second and third heats. They posted scores of 7.6, 7.8 and 8.25 in the event, but came up just shy of the opposition by the score of 24.55-23.65.

The Toss event once again saw the Thunder post strong scores in each heat but come up shy of a win as Georgetown had a strong showing for the final score of 25.45-23.50. Trine posted heat scores of 7.5, 8 and 8.

The Tumbling even saw the Tigers build their lead with a 44.55-18.275 final score. But the Thunder still had a strong chance for victory as the opposition was unable to field enough players for the Team event. Trine posted a 41.44 to come up just shy of a win.

Trine will return home for their next competition coming on Friday, March 19 at 6 p.m.
