ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Trine University acrobatics and tumbling team posted a program record score in the team event and hung close with their hosts from Adrian College but fell by the score of 233.545 to 227.120.
The Thunder posted three decent scores and one great one during the Compulsory Event. Their high came in the pyramid heat where they scored 9.20. Unfortunately for the team, the Bulldogs brought their A game winning each heat on the way to a 33.10-30.15 win in the event.
Trine would cut into that lead during the Acro Event by posting three strong scores, taking advantage of an Adrian mistake in the first heat. In that opening heat the Thunder would score 8.55 while the opposition came up with 5.90. The Bulldogs would edge the team in the final two heats, but Trine came away with a 25.50 to 24.20 win.
The two teams would post a virtual tie, just favoring the home team, during the Pyramid Event. The Thunder scored above nine in two heats with a 9.00 in the second and a 9.35 in the third. Both would match up strong heats for the opposition as well and the team would be just short of Adrian in the event, 27.75 to 27.10.
The Bulldogs would build their lead in the Toss Event outscoring the Thunder 24.45 to 22.50. Trine's best score would come in the third heat where they posted an 8.05. The Tumbling Event would finish much the same with the home team winning 44.225 to 40.800. that event saw the Thunder post a best score of 8.25 in the final heat.
Trine saved their best for last however posting the new program high in the Team Event with an 81.07 defeating Adrian who scored 79.82. It was not enough to cut into the lead and the Thunder would fall in the dual.
Trine falls to 2-4 following the loss. They will finish off the regular season when they host Concordia University Wisconsin on Sunday, April 10 for a 4 p.m. match.
