ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University acrobatics and tumbling team will take the floor for their third season of competition in 2023.
The team begins the season by hosting head coach Kati Horstmann's alma mater, Baylor University on Saturday, February 11. The Bears represent the pinnacle of acrobatics and tumbling fresh off their seventh consecutive NCATA National Championship. Last season the team finished 11-0 overall on their route to the championship.
The Thunder will host the match in the MTI Center, a first for the home team. The remainder of the season's home slate will take place in Hershey Hall.
Trine returns to more familiar opponents for their next two matches. They first travel to face Adrian College on Friday, February 24 before hosting Concordia University Wisconsin on Saturday, March 11. The Falcons finished last season 7-1 and won the inaugural Division III Invitational. The Bulldogs finished 5-3 and runner-up at the same event. All three of their losses came to Concordia Wisconsin.
Then on Thursday, March 16 another new face will visit town with the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor making their first trip to Angola. The CRU finished last season 3-3 overall, but all three of their losses came to Division I or Division II opponents, twice to Baylor and once to Azusa Pacific University.
The Thunder travel to face Concordia Wisconsin on Sunday, March 26 for their final road trip of the year. They finish the season at home by hosting a tri-match featuring Adrian and Augustana (S.D.) University on Saturday, April 1. The Vikings are competing in their inaugural season of acrobatics and tumbling this season.
Trine finished the 2022 season with a 3-6 overall record, but blew program scoring records out of the water. All nine of their best program scores came in during the year, with their final regular season competition serving as the new benchmark of 242.175, a full eight points over the second best.
