ANGOLA, Ind. – Another competition, another set of records fell for the Trine University acrobatics and tumbling team, despite a loss to the visiting team from University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.
The Thunder started the day on a mission turning in the best Compulsory Event performance in program history with a score of 34.55, but it wasn't enough with the Crusaders finishing with a 38.65. In the acro heat the team set a new benchmark with a 9.35 and in the toss heat the team tied the program best with a 9.45. They also posted a solid 9.65 in the pyramid heat.
Trine continued to perform solidly turning in the second-best performance in program history during the Acro Event with a score of 26.65. They had a new record in the first heat with a 9.55 and the new second-best in the third heat with a 9.30. Once again it wasn't enough with Mary Hardin-Baylor coming up with the win in the event.
Another record fell in the Pyramid Event when the team posted a score of 28.70. Their performances in the first (9.70) and third (9.80) heats also set new benchmarks for the program. The visiting side once again came out on top however with an event score of 29.50.
Coming out of halftime, no records would fall during the Toss Event as the Thunder were outscored 27.40 to 23.25 in the event. All the same the team posted solid scores during the heats, with a 7.75 in the first, a 7.05 in the second and an 8.45 in the third.
Trine posted their final new program bests in the Tumbling Event ending with the new record for the event with a 46.475. They also tallied a new high in the aerial pass with an 8.55 along with second-best performances in the quad (7.75) and the open (8.95).
The Thunder finished off the day by adding a the third-best Team Event score in program history with an 88.32. The points gave them a total of 247.945 the new benchmark for the program. Despite the record it wasn't enough as they fell to the Crusaders' final score of 269.905.
Trine falls to 2-2 overall following the loss. They will continue their season when they travel to face Concordia University Wisconsin on Sunday, March 26. The match is set to start at noon.
