BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Trine University acrobatics and tumbling team nabbed a second-straight win on the back of a near record-breaking performance against Buffalo State University. The Thunder won the contest with their second-best total score ever at 246.78 to 123.40.
Trine began the day with their best ever performance in the compulsory event posting a total of 35.15. Along the way they also turned in a new best in the toss heat with a 9.50 and top-five results in both acro (8.95) and tumbling (7.15).
The Acro Event ended with the Thunder posting a score of 26.45, the fourth highest for the program. They had solid scores in all three heats including a 9.0 in the 5-Element and 8.8 in the 6-Element, fourth best in program history as well.
Trine finished off the first half with a 28.45 in the pyramid event, the fifth-best for the program. Along the way they tied a program record in the third heat with an 9.80 and a third best score of 9.45 in the second heat. The team took a 90.05 to 66.25 lead into the intermission.
The toss event also went to the Thunder as they posted a new program best of 25.85. They had top five performances in all three heats including a new best in the 450 Salto with a 9.00. They scored 8.20 in the Synchronized and an 8.65 in the Open.
A final record fell in the tumbling event where the team scored a 48.05. They had new second best finishes in the Duo Pass with a 7.80 and the Quad Pass with a 7.90. Their score of 8.525 in the Aerial was a third best and the 8.65 in the Open Pass was fifth best.
The team event score of 82.83 sealed the victory for the team, giving the final score of 246.78 to 123.40.
Trine improves to 2-0 after the win. They will next take the mats when they host Glenville State University on Sunday, March 3. That match is set to start at 1 p.m. in Hershey Hall.
