FREELAND, Mich. – Senior football player Jacob Yoder (Elkhart, Ind. / Concord) has been named this week's Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Football Defensive Athlete of the Week following the team's defensive led victory over visiting Adrian College.
This is the first time this season that a Thunder student athlete has been named athlete of the week. It is also the first time in Yoder's career that he has earned the award.
Yoder led the defense on a day when the unit gave the oppositions fits. The team allowed just 233 yards of total offense including just 59 yards rushing. A big part of the team's success was five sacks against the Bulldogs offense. Yoder recorded 1.5 of those sacks, leading the team. In addition, he recorded another quarterback hurry during the game.
Yoder also finished the game second on the team with eight total tackles including seven assists and one solo.
The team will take the field again on Saturday, Oct. 9 when they travel to face Olivet College in their second MIAA contest of the season. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
