HUDSONVILLE, Mich. – The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) has selected senior guard Connor Jones as the Athlete of the Week after the Trine University men's basketball team won both of their games in the St. Andrews Products Classic on Saturday and Sunday.
The Thunder defeated Mount St. Joseph University on Saturday 65-48 and topped Lawrence University the next day 71-56. Jones averaged 17.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and recorded one block in the two games played.
Against MSJ, the Danville, Indiana native had 10 points, three rebounds and three assists in the 17-point victory. The scoring was spread out over five players who all ended up in double figures, but Jones was a key defensively as well in holding Mount St. Joseph to a season-low 48 points.
He exploded for a career-high with 24 points scored in the win against Lawrence on Sunday afternoon. The senior was 8-of-13 from the floor and buried four shots from long range and all four of his free throws. In ball control statistics, Jones had four rebounds and three assists. As someone who brings the ball up the floor for Trine, Jones was a major factor in the team having just six total turnovers, a mark that had not been seen since February 3, 2021.
After the Christmas break, the Thunder return to action on Thursday, December 29 when the team travels to Baldwin Wallace University. The matinee game will begin at 2 p.m.
