ANGOLA, Ind. - After a short lightening delay and a downpour through the final few holes, the Trine University men’s golf team persevered through it all to take home the top spot at their own A.C. Eddy Invitational with a team score of 290. Despite the tough weather conditions over the final few holes, the tournament average was just nine strokes over par for the day.
Played at Trine’s own par-71, 6,384 yard Zollner Golf Course, the Thunder finished 10 strokes ahead of Huntington University, and eight shots ahead of the Trine “B” team. In all, seven different schools competed in the invitational.
First Team All-MIAA senior Pat Wolcott (East Lansing, Mich./East Lansing) took home medalist honors firing a 1-under-par 70. Wolcott finished the afternoon with four birdies and 11 pars. One shot behind in a tie for second was junior Graham Bennett (Charlotte, N.C./Mallard Creek) with an even-par-71. In a tie for fifth with a 2-over-par 73 was junior Nolan Eli (Genoa, Ohio/Genoa). Sophomore Brandon Snell (Maumee, Ohio/Maumee) finished tied for 11th with a round of 76. Rounding out the team scoring for the Thunder in a tie for 20th was freshman Bryce Moore (Richmond, Ind./Richmond) carding a 77 for the day.
Trine will return to the course on April 13 for the first round of the four-team MIAA Automatic Qualifier Tournament hosted by Hope beginning at 1:00 p.m.
