JACKSON, MICH. -- The Trine University men's golf team placed third at the Irish Hills Intercollegiate hosted by Adrian (Mich.) College at Grande Golf Club in Jackson, Mich.
Sophomore Mitch Lowney (Fenton, Mich./Clarkston Everest) led the Thunder for the second straight tournament as Trine posted a team score of 316 strokes to place third of seven teams. Spring Arbor (Mich.) University finished first in the team standings at 302 strokes and Calvin (Mich.) College was second with 304 strokes.
Lowney finished in a tie for fourth overall individually with a team-best round of 76 strokes. Three other players finished in the top-15 with senior Todd Mieske (Owosso, Mich./Owosso) placing 11th with a score of 79 strokes. Fellow senior Carlos Coeto (Bernardo, Mexico) was third on the team, and tied for 12th among the field, with an 18-hole score of 80 strokes. Freshman Mark Civanich (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) shot a round of 81 strokes to finish in a tie for 14th.
Freshman Jack Brockie (Jackson, Mich./Hanover Horton) rounded out the team eligible scores at 82 strokes and tied for 20th place.
Trine had a lone player compete as an individual in senior Cameron Ruge (Coldwater, Mich./Coldwater) who fired a score of 81 strokes to tie Civanich for 14th place.
The Thunder return to the course tomorrow (Saturday, Sept. 19) for a second single-round tournament hosted by Adrian. The event is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. at Grande Golf Club in Jackson, Mich.
