ADRIAN, Mich. – The Trine University men's golf team finished second at the Irish Hills Invitational at Lenawee Golf Course on Saturday.
The Thunder had a two-day team score of 593 (298-295). Kenyon College led at the end of day one and pulled away for the win with an excellent round on day two with a 587 (297-290).
Mitch Lowney [Fenton, Mich. / Clarkston Everest] was the low-man once again for the Thunder with an even-par 71 in the second round. Lowney placed second as an individual with a 143 (72-71), two strokes behind Kenyon's Armand Oullette. The junior went 3-under 32 on the back nine.
Also garnering medalist honors at the event was Mark Civanich [Valparaiso, Ind. / Valparaiso]. The sophomore tied for fifth on the player leaderboard with a 147 (75-72). Civanich picked up seven spots from his day one position behind a string of four consecutive birdies from holes 14-17.
Jack Brockie [Jackson, Mich. / Hanover Horton] finished play with a 147 (74-73) as well, tying Civanich for fifth. Brockie birdied three holes out of four from the 13-16th holes.
Brogan Brockie [Jackson, Mich. / Hanover Horton] tied Lowney and Civanich for the team lead with four birdies in his second round. The freshman shot a 156 (77-79) for the tournament.
Nick Phillips [Yorktown, Ind. / Mincie Central] lowered his day one score by three strokes and wrapped up play with a 171 (87-84).
The Trine "B" team of Nathaniel Acres [Fishers, Ind. / Fishers], Mitch Blank [Hillsdale, Mich. / Hillsdale], Charlie Eriksen [Bloomfield Hills, Mich. / Cranbrook Kingswood], Carter Rang [Fort Wayne, Ind. / Concordia Lutheran] and Kyler Rod [Jackson, Mich. / Hanover Horton] placed fifth, with Acres pacing the squad with a 156 (78-78).
Individuals Colin Crumrine [Newark, Ohio / Newark Catholic] and Sean Hogan [Goshen, Ind. / NorthWood] scored a 165 (83-82) and 169 (83-86).
Next up for Trine men's golf is the second MIAA Jamboree event, hosted by Olivet on September 22.
