HUDSONVILLE, Mich. – Trine University men's golf senior Mitch Lowney has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Men's Golf Athlete of the Week after his individual performance at the Lou Collins Memorial.
Lowney, from Fenton, Michigan and a Clarkston Everest graduate, led the Thunder to a first-place team finish at the event, beating six of the seven conference opponents in a field of 15. He was also the individual medalist with back-to-back scores of 70, bringing his two-day total to 4-under 140.
On day one, the senior fired six birdies, including four on the final six holes of play. He tied for the fewest strokes on par-4 holes on the first day of competition. The second round saw Lowney score three birdies and the first eagle of the season for the Thunder.
He had the lowest score for the Trine team on both days to go six strokes up on Adrian College and lead the team to a win in their first event of the 2022 fall season. This is the third instance in which Lowney had won the MIAA Athlete of the Week award.
The next time Lowney will be in action is on September 15 when the team takes part in the Irish Hills Invitational at Tecumseh Golf Club.
