HUDSONVILLE, Mich. – Mark Civanich of the Trine University men's golf team has been named Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Men's Golf Athlete of the Week after a phenomenal 36 holes last week at Tecumseh Golf Club.
The junior from Valparaiso, Indiana was the individual medalist at the Irish Hills Invitational, where five other MIAA teams were competing. Civanich shot a 3-under 69 on the first day of competition, with a round that included six birdies. In the second round, the junior went 1-over 73 to make his two-day total 142. He had an eagle on hole three on Friday afternoon and had two birdies on the back nine. Civanich had a four-stroke lead over second-place at the conclusion of the event.
As a team, the Thunder were second-place overall behind Calvin University. Civanich had the two lowest scores each day for Trine.
This is his second career Athlete of the Week award and it is the second consecutive week that a Trine men's golfer has been honored as the MIAA Athlete of the Week.
Civanich and the Thunder compete for the first time on their home course this fall on Tuesday, September 20. Action begins at Zollner Golf Course at 1 pm.
