HUDSONVILLE, Mich. – For the second time this season, Trine University men's golfer Mark Civanich has been named Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Men's Golf Athlete of the Week. He shares the award with Will Robson from Hope College after shooting identical scores in both MIAA Jamboree events.
Civanich, a junior from Valparaiso, Indiana, brings home the third MIAA award for Trine men's golf in the fall of 2022. He has won twice and Mitch Lowney once. It is the third time in Civanich's career he has been tabbed MIAA Athlete of the Week.
His week was highlighted by an individual medalist finish at MIAA Jamboree #2. He and Robson tied for the event's lowest score of 70 (1-under) at Pine River Country Club in Alma, Michigan. Civanich had four birdies, the second-most of participating players. The team placed third at the event.
Earlier in the week, Civanich was a top-five finisher at the first MIAA Jamboree. He shot a 75 to help guide Trine to a second-place team score. Through two conference rounds, Civanich is tied for first-place with a 72.5 scoring average. The team is second on the leaderboard behind Hope.
The Thunder men are participating in the Region V Preview at the Virtues Golf Club in Nashport, Ohio on Monday and Tuesday, October 3-4.
