NASHPORT, Ohio – The Trine University men's golf team took a hiatus from league play on Monday to compete in the Region V Preview at The Virtues Golf Club in Nashport, Ohio. 15 of the top teams in the area clashed on the course, with Trine in fourth place overall after one of two rounds.
Mark Civanich was the low scorer for the Thunder with a 3-over 75. The junior is tied with Ian Johnston of Otterbein University as the clubhouse leader at the halfway point. He hit back-to-back birdies on holes five and six to highlight his round.
Kyler Rod and Mitch Lowney each finished their rounds at 83 on Monday to enter a tie for 28th. Rod hit consecutive birdies on the front as well, with his coming on holes seven and eight. Lowney went under-par on the par-4 sixth hole.
To round out the scoring members of the Thunder team, Carter Schnipke shot an 85, while Nick Coccaro was just behind at an 87. Schnipke matched Civanich by tallying birdies on holes five and six as well. The lone birdie on the day for Coccaro came on the par-5 seventh hole.
Individual golfer Charlie Eriksen completed the first round with a score of 81. The senior showed consistency with a team-high 12 pars and was tied for 16th overall at day's end.
