BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – The Trine University men's golf team concluded play at their season-opening 36-hole tournament, the Lou Collins Invitational at Bedford Valley Country Club on Saturday. The Thunder were able to move up a spot to fourth in the team standings and three members of the team were named All-Tournament participants.
The team had a score of 298, tied for the second-lowest team score of the day. Calvin University were the team champions at 592 (298-294) with Lourdes University (307-298) and Ohio Northern University (304-301) tied for second at 605 and Trine fourth at 607 (309-298).
Wade Shafer had the lowest round of the day with a 71 and Carter Schnipke was one back of him at even-par 72. The two had a two-round score of 149 to tie for fourth on the player leaderboard. Mark Civanich was consistent with a day two 76 and a total score of 151 to enter a tie for ninth. These three men were the recipients of the All-Tournament honors.
Charlie Eriksen and Joe Hawk were the final two scoring members for Trine. Eriksen carded an 80 on Saturday and finished the tournament at 159 (T-45th). Hawk secured a score of 79 on the second day of competition and had a 162 for the 36-hole event (T-58th). Individually, Colin Crumrine fired an 81 on Saturday and had a final tally of 165 for the weekend.
The Thunder are at home for the Ken Venturi Invitational at Zollner Golf Course on Wednesday, September 6 for their next event. Tee time in Angola, Indiana is set for 1 p.m.
