MILWAUKEE, Wis. – A three-goal third period lifted the Trine University men's hockey team to a 4-1 victory over their hosts from MSOE and secured them a spot in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) Harris Cup Playoffs.
The Thunder came up with the first goal of the contest in the tenth minute of play. The shorthanded goal was scored by freshman Brad Jenion (Macclesfield, Great Britain) with sophomore Garrett Hallford (McKinney, Texas) adding an assist.
The Raiders responded with a goal of their own in the 15th minute of the first period to tie the game at 1-1.
That score would hold through both intermissions. Trine took back the lead in the second minute of the final period. Sophomore TJ Delaney (St. Louis, Mo.) tallied the goal which would be the game-winner. Freshman Brendan Prappas (West Bloomfield, Mich.) added an assist.
The Thunder would pull away with two power-play goals in later in the period the first coming from freshman Justin Meers (St. Charles, Mo.) and the second from freshman Frank Trazzera (Keller, Texas).
Senior Brett Young (Livonia, Mich.) finished off the 4-1 victory in net for the Thunder, finishing with 23 saves.
The team improves to 12-8-3 overall and 10-5-3 in NCHA play. They will finish off the regular season next weekend with a pair of games against Adrian College. The first is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 14.
