FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The Trine University men's hockey team responded to their first loss of the season with a lopsided 5-2 victory over their hosts from Fredonia State University.
The Blue Devils opened the scoring in the contest taking the 1-0 lead after a power-play goal in the ninth minute of the first period.
The Thunder responded in decisive fashion scoring a pair of goals in a two minute period starting at the 14:30 mark of the same period. The first goal was scored by junior Brett Tierney (West Chicago, Ill.) with an assist from freshman Tyler Fox (Marshall, Mich.). The second goal coming in the 17th minute, was a power-play goal by junior Brendan Prappas (West Bloomfield, Mich.) with an assist from sophomore Thad Marcola (Almont, Mich.).
The team would take the 2-1 lead into the first intermission, before building on it further in the second period. Sophomore Jackson Clark (Fort Mill, S.C.) tallied a goal in the fifth minute of the period with Prappas adding an assist.
Then in the ninth minute the team took its largest lead of the contest with their fourth goal of the contest. Freshman Bobby Price (Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.) tallied the goal with Clark and junior Brad Jenion (Macclesfield, Great Britain) adding assists.
The 4-1 lead lasted until the 15th minute of the second period when Fredonia cut it back to 4-2 with a goal of their own.
Price put the game out of reach in the 14th minute of the third period with his second goal of the game making the score 5-3. Prappas added his second assist of the night on the goal ending the game with a team high three points.
In goal, sophomore Elias Sandholm (Stockholm, Sweden) picked up the first victory of his career. He ended the game with 28 saves while allowing just the two goals.
The Thunder improve to 3-1 following the victory. The team will continue their season when they return home to host Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) opponent Concordia University Wisconsin. The first game of the weekend doubleheader is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 12.
