PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- The Trine University men's hockey team finished off the second half of their two-game series against Chatham University with a 6-0 dismantling of the opposition. The win completes a sweep that began before Thanksgiving when the two teams faced in Thunder Ice Arena.
The Thunder scored their first goal in the 16th minute of the contest. Tim Organ (Lambertville, Mich.) picked up the first goal of his career after netting his shot. Classmate Kyle Watson (Wakefield, Great Britain) and junior Brett Piper (Cartier, Manitoba) added assists.
The second period saw the team pour on the offense, scoring four goals to build a commanding 5-0 lead. Senior Garrett Hallford (McKinney, Texas) started the scoring in the eighth minute before junior Brendan Prappas (West Bloomfield, Mich.) scored back-to-back goals at the midpoint of the period, his two goals was a game high. Finally, freshman Bobby Price (Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.) scored the final goal of the period in the 18th minute.
Piper rounded out the scoring in the tenth minute of the final stanza giving the team their final 6-0 lead.
Sophomore Shane Brancato (Lake Villa, Ill.) recorded his second shutout of the season in net for the team. He finished the game with 21 saves.
The team improves to 11-4 overall following the win, making this season the second winningest in program history with ten games left in the regular season. The team returns home for a weekend doubleheader against Finlandia University starting on Friday, January 7. The return to Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
