GLOUCESTER, Mass. – The American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) has announced their sixth annual "Krampade All-American Scholars" for the 2021-22 school year. In total, 15 student-athletes from both the Trine University men's and women's ice hockey programs were listed for their success on the ice and in the classroom.
In order to qualify for the award, a student-athlete must have attained a 3.75 grade point average for each semester, and appear in 40% of the team's games. Exceptions were granted to injured players and back-up goaltenders.
On the men's side, junior Brett Tierney [West Chicago, Ill.] has received the honor for the third time in his career while classmate Brett Piper [Cartier, Manitoba] picked up his second All-American Scholar award.
Sophomores Beau Binnie [Stouffville, Ontario], Shane Brancato [Lake Villa, Ill.], Jackson Clark [Fort Mill, S.C.] and Elias Sandholm [Stockholm, Sweden] each received All-American Scholar status. Binnie, Brancato and Sandholm have each been named twice by the AHCA in their careers. Freshman Matt Bielinski [Buffalo, N.Y.] rounded out the honorees for the Thunder men.
Eight recipients came from the women's team, including seniors Kristen Vandenheuvel [Denfield, Ont.] and Jade Pandres [Eagle River, Alaska]. With the extra year of eligibility due to COVID, Vandenheuvel and Pandres have become the program's first five-time All-American Scholars.
Fellow seniors Hannah Nelson [Libertyville, Ill.] and Devin Dzumaryk [Milford, Mich.] also become multiple-time honorees, with Nelson garnering her third and Dzumaryk her second All-American Scholar awards. Junior Makena Thompson [Anchorage, Alaska] is now a three-time award winner after being listed in consecutive seasons.
Sophomore Taryn Raisanen [White Lake, Mich.] as well as freshmen Payton Hans [Johnson Creek, Wis.] and Ellie Warhoftig [The Colony, Texas] have each been named as first-time All-American Scholars by the AHCA.
