HOLLAND, Mich. – The Trine University men's lacrosse team were outmatched by their hosts from Hope College, falling 19-2 to the home team in their third Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) contest of the season.
The Flying Dutch tallied the first four goals of the contest over the course of ten minutes of game time. Junior Collin Custer finally put the Thunder on the board with three minutes remaining in the opening period. Freshman Chris Molnar added an assist on the goal.
The second quarter went heavily in favor of the Flying Dutch, aided by a pair of penalties on the Thunder. Hope scored seven goals in the period building an 11-1 lead entering halftime.
The third ended up matching the first, with the home side scoring four straight goals before Trine put one more on the board. This time senior Noah Markus put it in the back of the net, but Molnar once again added an assist.
Four more goals for Hope in the final period built the score to its final at 19-2.
Trine falls to 9-2 overall and 1-2 in MIAA play following the loss. They will look to bounce back when they host Albion College on Tuesday, April 18. That game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
