KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Trine University men's lacrosse team ended the season with a loss, falling to their hosts from Kalamazoo College by the score of 9-5 in the regular season finale.
The Hornets scored the only goals of the first period, building a 3-0 lead in the first eight minutes of play before the Thunder defense finally settled in.
JJ Boos opened the second with the first goal for the team, scoring just 33 seconds into the period. Two minutes later Peter Piccillo, with an assist from Kramer Zastrow, put Trine back within a goal at 3-2. Kalamazoo responded with five unanswered goals to build the lead to 8-2, their largest of the contest.
Will Gonia finished off the first half with a third goal for the team to cut the lead to 8-3 for the intermission. Zastrow recorded his second assist on the goal. The air repeated the feat for the lone goal for the lone goal of the third period, making the score 8-4.
The two teams traded goals in the fourth to reach the final tally of 9-5. Noah Markus scored for the Thunder.
Nick DiPaolo once again put in strong work in net despite the loss. He finished the game with 15 saves and a .625 save percentage. Zachary Norris came up with a team-high three caused turnovers while coming in second with four groundballs. Both Eli Pfotenhauer and Mason Levin finished the game with a pair of caused turnovers. Justin Scheberle led the team with five groundballs.
Trine finishes the season 7-10 overall and 1-5 in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) play.
