Men's Rugby Ties for Third in Pittsburgh

Men's Rugby Ties for Third in Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Trine University men's rugby team opened the 2024 portion of their season by competing in the Pitt Dome's 7's tournament hosted by the University of Pittsburgh rugby club. The event took place this past Sunday, February 4 and saw the Thunder finish tied for third out of eight teams.

Trine started off pool play with a win over Slippery Rock by the score of 12-7. Broc Fraley and Dan Seymour both scored tries in the match to give the team their points. Next the team faced the hosts from Pitt and came up with a convincing 19-5 victory. Finally, the team stumbled against Franciscan University falling 27-7.

The finish put them second in Pool B and gave them a semifinal matchup against Indiana University of Pennsylvania, the top seed out of Pool A and the two time 7's national champions. They Crimson Hawks came up with a 21-7 victory over Trine and the Thunder ended the day in a tie for third.

The Thunder will return to the pitch on Saturday, March 23 when they head to the Fighting Irish Invitational hosted by the University of Notre Dame.
