ADRIAN, MICH. -- The Trine University men's soccer team captured its second victory of the season with a 4-1 win against Adrian (Mich.) College in a non-conference matchup at Docking Stadium in Adrian, Mich.
Freshman Hamzah Saleh (Detroit, Mich./Frontier International Academy) scored a pair of goals on the afternoon, including Trine's (2-0) first score of the game at the 18:39 minute mark to put the Thunder ahead, 1-0. Adrian (0-1) then evened the game at a goal apiece a few minutes later during the 26th minute to make it a 1-1 contest.
Late in the period, Trine broke the tie when Saleh found the back of the net for a second time during the 33rd minute to end the scoring in the first half and send the visitors into the locker room with a 2-1 edge.
The only scoring in the second period went in favor of Trine starting with a goal by junior Connor Malmquist (Valparaiso, Ind./Morgan Township) that was set up by senior Trevor Towghi (Portage, Mich./Portage Northern) with just under 28 minutes left to play and increased the margin to 3-1.
Less than two minutes after the Malmquist goal, the Thunder were gifted with an own goal that capped the scoring in the game and helped send Trine to the 4-1 victory.
Freshman Tory Saylor (Caledonia, Mich./Caledonia) picked up his second win of the season at goalkeeper and played all 90 minutes to go along with a pair of saves.
Up next for Trine will be a short road trip to Fort Wayne, Ind. to take on Indiana Tech next Saturday, Sept. 26. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
