FREELAND, Mich. – Trine University men's soccer players Tyler Murphy [Greenfield, Ind. / Greenfield Central] and Colin Nicoski [Plainfield, Ill. / Plainfield East] swept the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Men's Soccer Athlete of the Week awards, with Murphy taking the offensive honors and Nicoski defensive.
Murphy found the back of the net twice in the 3-1 regular season finale win at Alma College to give him a team-high 15 goals this season. In the 4-0 MIAA Tournament First Round match against Albion College, Murphy chipped in offensively with an assist to Alhasan Yahya [Melvindale, Mich. / Melvindale] on the second goal of the evening.
Nicoski helped defensively with the fifth shutout of the season for the Thunder in 2021 in the MIAA Tournament First Round match against Albion. The Trine defense held the Britons to just four shots on goal in the playoff game and the Scots were contained to the same number in the regular season finale.
The Thunder will look to make it back-to-back appearances in the MIAA Championship game with a win in the semifinal match at Calvin University on Wednesday, November 3.
