ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University men's soccer team has announced that Victor Newberg will be taking an increase in role with the program as an assistant coach. Newberg had previously served as a volunteer assistant coach with the team in 2023.
In total, Coach Newberg has been a collegiate coach for nine years. Before rejoining the Trine coaching staff, he was the head coach at Goshen College for four years.
Beginning in 2015, he was an assistant under Coach Jacobs at Ancilla College and in 2017 was named head coach. During his time at Ancilla, the team posted an overall record of 42-8-2 and helped the team to two Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) Championships, three MCCAA tournament appearances and a semifinal appearance in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Men's Soccer National Tournament.
In 2018, Newberg reunited with Coach Jacobs at Trine University. During that season, the team posted a record of 13-3-2 and got to the second round of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Tournament.
This past summer, Coach Newberg was the head coach at USL 2 South Bend Lions. Newberg played college soccer for St. Norbert College in De Pere, Wisconsin. During his time as a midfielder for the Green Knights, he helped the program to a 42-21-4 record. Coach Newberg is currently the Boys Technical Director at Jr Irish SC along with his duties at Trine.
