NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. -- The Trine University men's tennis team bounced back today with a convincing 9-0 victory over Manchester University.
Sophomore Aaron Streit (New Paris, Ind. / Fairfield) and freshman Ryan Smith (Peru, Ind. / Peru) started the winning for the Thunder with an 8-5 victory in the No. 1 doubles match. In the No. 2 match, sophomores Eric Gaby (Syracuse, Ind. / Fairfield) and Drew Dixon (Fishers, Ind. / Fishers) came up with a lopsided 8-1 win. Senior Isaac Everitt and sophomore Alex Mullet (Westfield, Ind. / Westfield) finished off with an 8-2 win in the No. 3 match.
Trine kept on rolling from there, with five members of the team going 2-0 in the dual. Everitt took the No. 1 singles match 6-4, 6-2 while Striet swept the No. 2 match 6-0, 6-0. In the No. 5 match, Dixon came up with a 6-0, 6-4 win while Mullet came away with a 6-1, 6-2 win in the No. 6 match. Smith won via retirement after the first two sets ended 4-6, 7-5 and with Smith up in the super tiebreaker.
The final point for the Thunder came from sophomore Mitch Rose (Plymouth, Ind. / Plymouth) with a 6-1, 6-0 win in the No. 4 singles match.
Trine improves to 2-2 following the lopsided victory. They will face off with Manchester again on Saturday, Sept. 26 this time at home with an 11:00 a.m. start.
