NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. -- The Trine University men's tennis team easily handled their hosts from Manchester University, dispatching the Spartans 9-0.
In the first portion of the match the Thunder took all three doubles matches. In the No. 1 match, junior Aaron Streit (New Paris, Ind. / Fairfield) and sophomore Ryan Smith (Peru, Ind. / Peru) took the closest match of the contest by the score of 8-4. In the No. 2 match senior Jaxon Davis (Angola, Ind. / Angola) and freshman Caleb Morris (Terre Haute, Ind. / Terre Haute South Virgo) picked up an 8-1 victory. The No. 3 match turned in a victory by forfeit for the Trine.
Freshman Cole Goodman (Eagle, Mich. / Grand Ledge) and Streit took the top two singles matches in sweeps winning 6-0, 6-0. Davis would take the No. 3 match 6-1, 6-2 and Smith would win the No. 4 match with scores of 6-1, 6-3. The last two matches would go down as victories by forfeit for the Thunder to complete the 9-0 victory.
The team starts the season 1-0. They will return home for their next match on Saturday, Sept. 11 when they will face off with Franklin College. The match is set to start at noon.
