HUDSONVILLE, Mich. – The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) has announced the 2023 edition of its postseason honors. Freshman Andrew Spirrison and sophomore Cole Goodman each earned a spot on second team All-MIAA while Senior Aaron Streit received the Dr. Lawrence Green Scholar-Athlete Award.
Streit becomes the fourth Thunder student-athlete to earn the Dr. Lawrence Green Scholar Athlete Award, which is given to the outstanding senior scholar athlete among MIAA men's tennis teams. It is named in the memory of longtime Hope College tennis coach Dr. Lawrence Green. Streit is set to graduate with a degree in Biomedical Engineering and has accumulated a perfect 4.0 GPA. He has worked on projects that aim to reduce SIDS, test environmental factors on the lymphatic system and research on colorectal cancer cell lines. He as also served as a research assistant for NASA and helped perform leukemia treatments. Streit is also a member of the Ehinger Fellows, a prestigious organization based on leadership, academics and service.
On the court, Streit is a three-year captain and has been voted most valuable teammate by his peers every year. He finished his career with a 37-21 singles record, ninth most in program history. This season he went 2-4 during MIAA singles matches and 3-3 in MIAA doubles matches.
This is the second straight year that Goodman has been recognized as an All-MIAA student-athlete, after receiving first team honors a season ago. Goodman competed at number one singles in all but one of the team's MIAA duals. He recorded a 2-4 record in singles while going 3-3 in doubles. Overall for the season he finished 9-8 in singles and 10-7 in doubles.
Spirrison started the conference season at number one before dropping to the number two match for the majority of the MIAA season. He finished with a 4-2 singles record while going 2-4 in doubles. Overall for the season he finished 7-6 in singles and 5-8 in doubles.
The Thunder will face off with Kalamazoo College today, Thursday, April 27 at 4 p.m. The dual match is the semi-final of the 2023 MIAA Tournament which Trine reached by finishing fourth in the regular season.
