ANGOLA, Ind. -- The Trine University men's tennis team came up short of the visitors from the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology with a final score of 7-2.
All three doubles matches were close, each decided by three or less games. The lone victory of the first part of the dual came in the No. 1 match where freshman Sammy Yin and sophomore Andrew Spirrison came up with an 8-6 victory.
Yin supplied the team's other point of the day by taking the No. 1 singles match witht he most convincing victory of the day for either side with scores of 6-2, 6-0. Junior Cole Goodman won the first set of the No. 2 match in a tiebreaker before dropping the match after a long super tiebreaker with final scores of 7-6(7-4), 3-6, 12-14. Sophomore Elijah Schilthuis had a close match of his own at No. 4 forcing a super tiebreaker with a second set win. He would eventually fall with scores of 2-6, 7-6(7-4), 9-11.
The Thunder fall to 3-2 overall after the loss. They will finish the dual portion of the fall season by traveling to face Anderson (Ind.) University on Tuesday, September 26. The dual is set to start at 3 p.m.
