ORLANDO, Fla. – The Trine University men's tennis team battled in a matchup of Thunder but came up short against Wheaton College by the score of 7-2.
Wheaton took the early lead with a pair of wins during the doubles portion of the contest. Caleb Morris and Nicholas Jen scored the point for Trine with an 8-4 victory in the No. 2 match.
Sammy Yin turned in one of the performances of the day during the singles portion of the match, coming just short of another team point for Trine. He won the first set 6-4, before falling in a tiebreaker in the second 7-6. The super tiebreaker went to Wheaton as well by the score of 11-9.
Drew Dixon won his super tiebreaker to give the team their other points of the day. After dropping the opening set, he won the second 6-3 and then posted a convincing 10-5 win in the super tiebreaker to win the day.
The Thunder fall to 4-3 following the loss. They will return to the courts tomorrow, Wednesday, March 6 for a pair of contests. The first is scheduled for 7:30 a.m. against St. John Fisher University with the second coming at 6 p.m. against Wabash College.
