ORLANDO, Fla. – The Trine University men's tennis team swept Wittenberg in the final match of their spring break trip.
The closest match of the day opened the dual with the pair of Sammy Yin and Andrew Spirrison needing a tiebreaker to defeat their opponents in the No. 1 doubles match by the score of 8-7 (7-3). The other two matches were less exciting with the No. 2 team of Cole Goodman and Drew Dixon as well as the No. 3 team of Caleb Morris and Nicholas Jen both winning by the score of 8-2.
A few of the singles matches were close as well. Goodman had a battle in the No. 2 match eventually winning with scores of 7-5, 7-5. Elijah Schilthuis was also in a close match at No. 4 with scores of 6-4, 6-4 while Morris was similar in the No. 5 match with scores of 6-4, 6-3. Yin won the No. 1 match 6-1, 6-3 and Dixon took the No. 6 match 6-3, 6-0. Spirrison had the most convincing win of the singles with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 3.
The team improves to 6-3 overall following the victory. They will return home for their next match, hosting Manchester University on Thursday, March 14. That dual is set to start at 4 p.m.
