ANGOLA, IND. -- The Trine University men's indoor track & field team captured its second individual meet title in a meet hosted by Trine at the Keith E. Busse/Steel Dynamics Athletic and Recreation Center.
The Thunder finished with a team score of 188 points to take first place out of a field of four teams. Hope (Mich.) College was second with 137 points and Olivet (Mich.) College was third at 128 points.
Trine had several individual event winners on the track including in the 200-meter dash that saw sophomore Ben Williams (Farmington Hills, Mich./Harrison) take first in an event where seven Trine runners placed in the top-10. Williams posted a winning time of 22.74 seconds and was followed by teammate Jake Gladieux (Oregon, Ohio/Whitmer) in second place after running a time of 23.02 seconds.
Gladieux also went on to be an event winner in the 60-meter hurdles where he had a winning mark of 8.44 seconds in the finals. He advanced to the finals after recording a time of 8.40 seconds in the prelims.
Seniors Derek Miller (Shipshewana, Ind./Westview) and Jack Beakas (Auburn, Ind./DeKalb) both had strong performances in the distance events with Miller winning the 5000-meter run in a time of 14:56.06 and then placed second in the 3000-meter run in a time of 9:12.45. Beakas placed second behind Miller in the 5000m (15:02.24) and then was the third Trine runner to cross the finish line in the 3000m in a time of 9:16.54.
Teammate Quinten Prieur (Constantine, Mich./Constantine) captured the 3000m with a winning time of 9:12.27 and made up a field that saw Trine take first thru fifth place in the event.
Also in the distance events, senior Neil O'Brien (Whiteland, Ind./Roncalli) had the winning mark in the mile of 4:24.52.
Rounding out the top performances in the running events was the duo of sophomore William Thonn (Rochester, Ind./Rochester) and freshman Danny Vinson (Berrien Springs, Mich./Berrien Springs) who finished back-to-back in the 60-meter dash. Thonn ran the fastest time of the day of 7.19 seconds in the finals and Vinson had a time of 7.20 seconds to place second.
Junior Greysen Spohn (Peru, Ind./Peru) and junior Noah McClellan (Schererville, Ind./Lake Central) captured victories in the field events with Spohn winning the high jump (6' 4.75") and McClellan the triple jump (41' 5.00").
Three individuals placed in the top-five of the weight throw, including two in the top three in senior Nicholas Kane (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East) who placed second following a throw of 47' 9.25" and junior Theodore Samra (Lansing, Mich./DeWitt) who was third thanks to a best effort of 47' 2.25".
Freshman Alexander Lewis (LaPorte, Ind./LaPorte) finished in the top-three in the shot put with a toss of 45' 6.50" and the duo of Williams and freshman Anthony Latin (Benton Harbor, Mich./Berrien Springs) took second and third place in the long jump with distances of 21' 10.25" and 20' 3.50", respectively.
The Trine track & field teams are scheduled to compete in a meet hosted by Calvin (Mich.) University on Friday, Feb. 19 in Grand Rapids, Mich. A start time for the meet has not been announced.
