FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Trine University men's track and field team had numerous top performances in Friday's Strive for Greatness Indoor Meet hosted by Indiana Tech University.
Jake Gladieux [Oregon, Ohio / Whitmer] topped the scoring sheet for Trine in three events. He set a new personal best time in the 60-meter hurdles with a fourth-place finish of 8.24 seconds. He was also the fastest Thunder athlete in the 400-meter run with a time of 50.35 seconds. Finally, Gladieux anchored the 4x400 meter relay team with Ryan Smith [Peru, Ind. / Peru], Kyran Pearson [Elkhart, Ind. / Elkhart Central] and Ty Hoover [Monticello, Ind. / Twin Lakes]. The group placed third with a time of 3:32.26.
Noah Ballard [Tipp City, Ohio / Tippecanoe] notched a personal best time in the 800-meter run with a fourth-place finish of 2:03.43. Philip Nemechek [East Jordan, Mich. / East Jordan] was just behind in sixth with a time of 2:04.95. In the other middle distance event of the night, Yosef Solomon [Indianapolis, Ind. / Ben Davis] was the top Thunder athlete in the mile run at 4:48.25.
In shorter events, it was Josh Davis [Sterling Heights, Mich. / Sterling Heights] placing fifth in the 60-meter dash finals with a time of 6.99 seconds and Ben Williams [Farmington Hills, Mich. / Harrison] had the lowest Trine time in the 200-meter run at 22.79 seconds.
Top field event finishers included Travis Dowling [Swayzee, Ind. / Oak Hill] in the shot put (13.65 meters / 44' 9.5"), Jacob Barkey [Waterloo, Ind. / DeKalb] in the weight throw (15.38 meters / 50' 5.5"), Noah McClellan [Schererville, Ind. / Lake Central] in the triple jump (12.78 meters / 41' 11.25"), Ethan Spahr [Osseo, Mich. / Pittsford] in the long jump (6.70 meters / 21' 11.75"), and Anthony Latin [Benton Harbor, Mich. / Berrien Springs] in the high jump (1.78 meters / 5' 10"). Barkey, Spahr and Latin all set new personal bests in their events.
The Thunder are off for Christmas break and return to action with the Sean Brady Alumni Open at home on Saturday, January 15.
