WINONA LAKE, Ind. – The Trine University men's track and field team saw eight event wins at the Lancer Invitational on Friday at Grace College.
In field events, Ethan Spahr [Osseo, Mich. / Pittsford] won the triple jump at 12.76 meters (41' 10.50") while Alexander Lewis [LaPorte, Ind. / LaPorte] was victorious in the shot put with a throw of 13.86 meters (45' 5.75") as well as Travis Dowling [Swayzee, Ind. / Oak Hill] in the discus at 42.54 meters (139' 7.00").
Jake Gladieux [Oregon, Ohio / Whitmer] topped the leaderboard in both the 110-meter hurdles (14.99 seconds) and 400-meter hurdles (52.37 seconds). Gladieux was also a member of the 4x400-meter relay team which placed second at 3:28.66. Greysen Spohn [Peru, Ind. / Peru], Evan Selby [Lake Villa, Ill. / Lake Villa] and Dominick Giuditta [Machester, Pa. / Northeastern] were also members of the squad. The 4x100-meter relay team of Spohn, Josh Davis [Sterling Heights, Mich. / Sterling Heights], Ben Williams [Farmington Hills, Mich. / Harrison] and Danny Vinson [Berrien Springs, Mich. / Berrien Springs] finished first at 41.77 seconds.
In short events, Davis won the 100-meter dash at 11.11 seconds while Aaron Pike [New Richmond, Ohio / New Richmond] was first in the 400-meter dash with a time of 51.09 seconds. Williams was a second-place finisher in the other sprint event, the 200-meter dash. He completed the event in 22.08 seconds.
The Thunder had a trio of athletes place third in field events. Spohn placed third in the high jump at 1.90 meters (6' 2.75"). Williams competed in the long jump and went 6.58 meters (21' 7.25"), while Jacob Barkey [Waterloo, Ind. / DeKalb] was third in the hammer throw at 50.32 meters (165' 1.00").
The next event for the track and field team will be the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Outdoor Track and Field Championships from Albion College will be on Thursday, May 5 and Friday, May 6.
