DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Early Bird Open at Defiance College marked the start of the 2022-23 indoor season for the Trine University men's track and field program. Throwers and pole vaulters were in action on Friday evening, with several student-athletes setting new personal best scores.
Seniors Theodore Samra and Jacob Barkey finished second and third in the shot put and weight throw, with each setting a new personal best in one event. Samra went 14.81 meters (48' 7.25") in the shot put, a new career-best, and 16.93 meters (55' 6.50") in the weight throw. Barkey's third-place finishes included a 12.14-meter (39' 10.00") shot put and career-best 16.43-meter (53' 11.00") weight throw.
Sophomores Blake Lude and Nathan Leap competed in the pole vault for the Thunder. Lude and Leap tied for the best height of the day at 3.81 meters (12' 6.00").
