FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Trine University men's track and field team wrapped up the 2022 portion of their indoor schedule on Saturday at the Indiana Tech Strive for Greatness Invitational. Two school records were set at the event – senior Jake Gladieux in the 200-meter dash and senior Greysen Spohn in the high jump.
Gladieux went 22.23 seconds in the 200-meter run, good for a fifth-place finish in the event and enough to break teammate Ben Williams' record by 0.12 seconds. In the high jump, Spohn reached a new career-best height of 1.98 meters (6' 6.00") to tie the school record and score a third-place finish. Just behind him was freshman Justin Ackerman with a fourth-place mark of 1.93 meters (6' 4.00").
Along with Gladieux's performance in the 200-meter run, he was also the top finisher in the 60-meter hurdles with a first-place 8.10-second time. Spohn was third at 8.27 seconds and sophomore Evan Selby fourth at 8.59 seconds.
In other running events, sophomore Maxwell Harris was third in the 60-meter run with a time of 7.01 seconds. Sophomore Philip Nemechek placed runner-up in the 800-meter run (2:00.20), while freshmen Jacob Batten (2:11.29) and Hunter Overholser (2:12.30) were in tow in sixth and seventh in the event. In the mile run, three freshmen led the way for Trine. Joshua Maier went 4:38.79 to finish second and it was Matt Hoop (4:47.37) and Eli Shoup (4:50.38) in fifth and sixth.
Other field events included sophomore Ethan Spahr and senior Eirik Eggen, who were sixth and seventh in the triple jump at 12.91 meters (42' 4.25") and 12.13 meters (39' 9.75"). In the shot put, freshman Noah Chew had the best Thunder score at 13.31 meters (43' 8.00") to place fifth and senior Travis Dowling was sixth at 13.17 meters (43' 2.50").
Following the Christmas holiday, Trine will host the Sean Brady Alumni Invitational on Saturday, January 14.
