HUDSONVILLE, Mich. – The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) has announced senior thrower Kimball Hughes as the Men's Field Athlete of the Week. It is his second career MIAA Athlete of the Week award during the indoor season.
Hughes competed at the Midwest Elite Invitational for the Trine University men's track and field squad and put together a pair of quality performances. The Thunder were tied for sixth at the event as a team among some of the top teams in the region and nation.
The Reading, Michigan native was in action in the shot put and weight throw last Saturday at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. The shot put saw Hughes record a team-best throw of 14.44 meters (47' 4.50") to score a 15th-place finish. He also set a new personal best in the weight throw at 15.24 meters (50' 0.00"), good for 19th overall.
Hughes and the rest of the Trine men's and women's track and field teams take part in the Hillsdale Tune-Up on Saturday, February 17.
