EAST LANSING, Mich. – At Friday's Spartan Invite at Michigan State University, the Trine University men's track and field team had several representatives in action.
The best individual finish came from Max Van Huis in the 3000-meter steeplechase event. Van Huis ran a time of 9:56.04 for a runner-up spot in the race. Also inside the top-five were Colten Zableckis in the discus throw at 39.92 meters (130' 11.00"), good for fourth and a personal best, and Philip Nemechek with a fifth-place spot in the 800-meter run at 1:57.62 (season best). Nemechek competed in the seeded race, with Matthew Rankin winning the open event in the 800 at 2:03.47 (personal best).
Top-ten finishes were credited to Dillon Dennison in the hammer throw with a sixth (46.74 meters / 153' 4.00"), Colton Wampler with an eighth-place finish in the javelin (38.62 meters / 126' 8.00") and Kimball Hughes secured an eighth-place spot in the shot put (13.78 meters / 45' 2.50").
Other top finishes for the Thunder included Blake Overmyer in the 5000-meter run at 15:41.27 (11th), Jack Melvin in the 400-meter run at 51.13 (16th) and Drew Sillaway in the 1500-meter seeded race at 4:11.79 (27th). Overmyer and Melvin each ran personal best times in their events.
The Manchester Invitational will feature additional competitors for the Trine men on Saturday, April 6.
